Frequently Asked Questions.

As part of our updated website and the introduction of TaxStore®, we’ve answered some of the most common questions below.

These FAQs explain how our services work and what this means for you.

About Hillmans & TaxStore®

  • Why have you updated your brand and website?

We’ve been using the same website and logo for over 10 years, so it felt like the right time to update things to reflect how our services have developed.

Alongside our traditional, face-to-face accounting service, we are introducing more flexible digital options through our TaxStore® platform, making it easier for clients to work with us in a way that suits them.

  • What is TaxStore®?

TaxStore® is our online platform at www.taxstore.com, created by Hillmans Chartered Accountants, where you can manage your tax affairs in one place. You can access TaxStore® through the website, your secure client portal, or our mobile app.

It brings together our accounting and tax services with secure digital tools, allowing you to:

     • Add and purchase services through the portal

     • Approve returns and submissions online in seconds

     • Message our team directly within the portal

     • Book appointments with our team online

     • Scan receipts and upload documents using your phone

     • See what’s filed, what’s due, and what needs action

     • Access a range of exclusive resources for clients

     • Log in online or on mobile, anytime

TaxStore.com also gives clients access to a growing range of free resources and learning hubs, including our MTD Tax School, Funding Hub, Side Hustles Hub and Tax Hub.

It works alongside our existing Hillmans accounting and tax service, giving you the flexibility to work with us online, in person, or both.

  • Why not build the platform under the Hillmans name?

We chose to create TaxStore® as a separate platform so we could build a dedicated digital experience, without diluting the Hillmans brand.

Hillmans remains our established firm, providing trusted, face-to-face accounting and tax advice. TaxStore® has been developed as a digital platform, giving clients a simple and flexible way to access our services online.

By keeping the two connected but distinct, we’re able to offer the best of both, combining traditional support with modern digital tools as part of one joined-up service.

This allows us to offer greater flexibility without changing how you already work with us.

  • Why is it called TaxStore®?

The name TaxStore® reflects the idea of bringing everything tax, accounting and business together in one place, under one roof.

Before starting Hillmans, Steven ran a village Post Office, where people could access a wide range of services in one convenient location. That “one-stop shop” philosophy has shaped how we’ve built our firm.

We also recognised that the ability to access and purchase accounting and tax services online is still relatively uncommon, and that accountancy firms are not typically known for innovation in this area.

We wanted a name that was clear, distinctive and strong enough to define this concept, a one-stop shop for tax, where clients can access tax and accounting services in a structured and accessible way.

In the same way the App Store is the place to access apps online, and the Post Office is the place to access postal services, TaxStore® is the place to access tax services. The name says exactly what it is. The place for tax.

It reflects both our tradition as a trusted local firm and our vision for a modern, digital way of working.

  • Is TaxStore® a separate company or franchise?

No. TaxStore® is not a franchise.

TaxStore® is a platform developed by our team and designed to sit alongside our existing services at Hillmans Chartered Accountants.

All accounting and tax services continue to be provided by Hillmans Ltd, trading as Hillmans Chartered Accountants.

The TaxStore® name and brand are owned by TaxStore Ltd, a company wholly owned by Steven Hillman. The company holds the intellectual property for the platform.

  • Is it still the same team?

Yes. Nothing has changed in terms of the people you deal with. You’ll continue working with the same Hillmans team, with the same level of service and support.

  • Will the way I deal with you change?

No, unless you want it to.

You can continue working with us exactly as you do now, including face-to-face meetings and traditional communication. TaxStore® simply gives you additional options if you prefer to work more digitally.

  • Do I have to use TaxStore®?

No. TaxStore® is optional. Some clients prefer digital tools, while others prefer a more traditional approach. We support both.

  • When will I get access to the TaxStore® portal?

We’re launching the TaxStore® portal initially to support Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for IT) in April 2026.

After this, we’ll be rolling it out to our full client base over the following 12 months. We’ll contact you directly when your account is ready, along with details on how to log in and use the platform.

If you’d like access sooner, you can request this at any time. This will allow you to log in, view documents such as accounts and tax returns, and explore resources available on the platform.

We’ll also be adding step-by-step guides and tutorials on TaxStore.com to help you get the most from the portal.

  • What is Storee?

Storee is our brand ambassador, created from our logo. You’ll see Storee across both Hillmans and TaxStore®, helping guide clients and represent our friendly, approachable way of working.

  • Why do you use taxstore.com instead of taxstore.co.uk?

We chose to use taxstore.com as it better reflects the direction of TaxStore® as a modern, digital platform, rather than a traditional local firm website.

From the outset, we wanted a brand we could fully own and protect in the United Kingdom. For us, that meant securing the TaxStore® trademark, company name, and matching domain names for both .com and .co.uk.

A .com domain is widely recognised as the gold standard for leading online platforms and services. Using a .com domain gives us a clear, consistent identity and supports our aim of creating a central place where clients can access tax and accounting services online.

Although we use a .com domain, our services are focused on UK clients and fully tailored to UK tax and regulatory requirements.

We also own the taxstore.co.uk domain, so whichever address you use, you’ll always be directed to the correct place.

  • Why “under one roof”?

At Hillmans, we believe accounting should be simple, accessible and joined up.

We bring together everything you need, from advice and compliance to digital tools, so you can manage your affairs in one place with clarity and control.

Through our TaxStore® platform alongside our face-to-face service, you can access everything in a way that suits you, whether you prefer to work online, in person, or a combination of both.

In person or online, everything is under one roof.
